Imbolc marks a quiet yet powerful turning point in the cycle of the year. Winter is still palpable, and yet beneath the surface new life is already stirring. Just like nature, we too are invited to prepare ourselves to realign and find our visions. Ritual Cacao brings us into contact with our heart and helps us connect with the visions that wish to ripen within us.

What is Imbolc and how is it celebrated?
On February 1st and 2nd we celebrate the Celtic festival of the year Imbolc. This moon festival takes place about six weeks after the Jul festival at the winter solstice and six weeks before Ostara at the spring equinox.
Winter is still present, and at the same time many plants are already preparing to become visible again in spring. We remember that change is allowed to begin slowly and that we can now get ready to invite something new into our lives. For this, we invite you to connect with your heart and, from this powerful source, find your visions and create and shape from this foundation.
Celebrating Imbolc
One tradition is thorough cleansing. For this, smudge with sage or palo santo and imagine everything that no longer serves you being released. Feel free to walk through your entire home. Smudge especially in the corners and invite in fresh new energy. Afterwards, you can also smudge yourself and or take a cleansing salt bath.
Another beautiful idea is to create an Imbolc altar for yourself. Place candles, flowers, seeds or other items on it that symbolize the awakening of nature and new beginnings.
You are also warmly invited to carry out the following cacao ritual to welcome new energy and connect with your vision for this year.
Imbolc Cacao Ritual: Seeds of New Beginnings
- Prepare your ritual cacao with lots of love and awareness. (A recipe and preparation tips can be found here.)
- Then make yourself comfortable at your place of power or in front of your altar with cushions and a blanket. Close your eyes for a moment and take a few deep breaths into your heart.
- Invite the cacao spirit to be with you and guide you. Then speak your intention into the cacao. This could be something like: I wish to see my vision clearly and open myself to a powerful new beginning. See if another intention arises from your heart and, if so, speak this into your cacao as well.
- Then drink your cacao sip by sip and keep your attention with your heart.
- Keep your eyes closed if it feels good for you and sense into your heart. Imagine how with every heartbeat and every sip of cacao you come closer and closer to your inner world. Imagine a place where you feel completely safe and at ease.
- Stay in this place and imagine the sun shining down on you. It fills you with fresh energy of new beginnings. Ask yourself: Which seed do I want to sow for this year? What is my vision for my life? Allow whatever wants to arise to come.
- Imagine placing this seed into your heart and allow your vision to grow bigger and bigger from there.
- When it feels complete for you, gently leave this place and open your eyes. Thank yourself and the cacao spirit and sense once more if there is anything for you to do today. Perhaps, supported by the cacao medicine, you would like to do something today that nourishes your seed and allows it to grow.
