Cacao for a Strong Root Chakra & Your Primal Trust

Find Stillness and Stability in the Rhythm of Nature

In a world that constantly drives us toward doing and movement, nature offers us a valuable counter-impulse: the rhythm of rest, grounding and anchoring. Just as a tree can only grow powerfully toward the sky when its roots are anchored deep and strong in the ground, we too need times when we turn inward to strengthen our base. Ritual cacao is a valuable companion in this process: Mama Cacao not only opens the heart, but also connects you with your physical body and the nourishing energy of Mother Earth. Through her warming, centering quality, this plant medicine helps you arrive in the here and now, release inner restlessness and consciously feel your root area. Especially in combination with meditation, music or intuitive movement, cacao unfolds a deeply grounding effect.

Today I invite you to a cacao ritual in which you can connect with the earth, center yourself and feel your inner stability. With this cacao ritual we also want to renourish our primal trust. A theme that is closely connected with the root chakra.

Primal trust is a big topic and, for me, the foundation on which our life is built. Many people try to heal or improve things in their life, but often only scratch the surface. They take care of the symptoms and not the causes. Primal trust operates on one of the deepest levels, which develops especially in the first three years of life. It is an existential basic feeling that is established primarily in early childhood, but can be consciously strengthened at any point in life.

Cacao Ritual: Working with the Root Chakra for More Primal Trust

  1. Prepare your ritual cacao with a lot of love and awareness. Here you'll find a recipe & tips for preparation.
  2. It's best to go outside and sit down on the earth. When our primal trust is not well developed, we often feel the need to be held by our mom like a child. We can remind ourselves that there is Pachamama – Mother Earth – who holds and carries us.
  3. Give the following intention to your cacao: "I allow myself to invite primal trust into my life. I remember the feeling of primal trust." See if something of your own comes up that you'd like to give to the cacao.
  4. Drink your ritual cacao with your eyes closed and imagine roots growing from you into the earth. These roots connect you with the earth and with a vast network of information and feelings. You can also stand up for this.
  5. Invite the Cacao Spirit and Mother Earth to hold you and send you feelings such as self-assurance, self-confidence, trust in life, courage and softness.
  6. Imagine how you draw red energy from the ground through your roots and distribute it throughout your entire body. Say to yourself inwardly: "I open myself to life. I feel that I am always taken care of."
  7. Repeat this until it feels complete, then open your eyes again. To close, you can write down three questions and simply write intuitively whatever comes to you:
Where and with whom do I feel at home? Who or what gives you a feeling of security? Three examples of times life has taken care of me.
  8. Thank Mother Earth, the Cacao Spirit and yourself, and close this ritual by giving yourself a shake. Afterward, you can also put on a song and dance.

I wish you much joy with this ritual. Be loving and gentle with yourself. This is a deep and big topic. This ritual serves as a starting point, and further work is likely needed to renourish this important feeling.

More explanations and further tips for your root chakra can be found below in this post:

What Is the Root Chakra?

The root chakra (Sanskrit: Muladhara chakra) is the first of the seven main chakras in the subtle energy system of the human body. It is located in the area of the pelvic floor – more precisely between the sit bones, pubic bone and tailbone. This energy center is responsible for themes such as:

  • Security & primal trust
  • Stability & grounding
  • Physical survival & life force
  • Connection to the material world

A strong and balanced root chakra gives you a feeling of inner calm, self-assurance and self-confidence. It helps you anchor yourself in the here and now, independent of external circumstances.

Spiritual growth can only arise on a stable foundation. As Maslow's hierarchy of needs shows, we first need the fulfillment of our basic needs, such as sleep, food and security, before we can turn to higher levels such as self-actualization or spirituality.

Create a Stable Foundation in Everyday Life

Imagine you are a tree. And this tree begins to grow, bit by bit, from its roots toward the sky. Here you can ask yourself the question: What do my roots need so they can carry my treetop strong and secure? Start here first with your basic needs in everyday life. Do a check-in with yourself again and again, no matter how simple it may sound, and ask yourself: What do I need in this moment to feel safe and connected with myself? Maybe it's enough water and food, a few deep breaths into your heart, a walk in nature, or a hug from yourself or a loved one.

Concrete Tips for Strengthening Your Root Chakra

  • Spend a lot of time in nature, barefoot whenever possible
  • Explore what personally gives you a sense of security and how you can invite more of it into your life – maybe it's routines in everyday life, or maybe planning and foresight, clarifying conversations, health or material resources
  • Practice grounding meditations, e.g. on the root chakra, finding primal trust, stability, or also ancestral healing
  • If possible, schedule a silent weekend and turn fully inward
  • Give your body a lot of warmth through sauna sessions or regular baths
  • Eat plenty of root vegetables (carrots, potatoes, parsnips, etc.)
  • Massage your feet, e.g. with sesame oil (stimulates circulation while grounding at the same time)
  • Use spices like turmeric, ginger and cinnamon (you can also wonderfully add these to your ritual cacao)
  • Move your body as often as possible to connect with your humanness and your aliveness

I truly hope these suggestions and tips can support you in building a safe and stable foundation for your life.
